Tanggal 13 Februari 2015 lalu, saya mengikuti tes TOEFL ITP di kampus. Kami, para mahasiswa, harus dapat skor 500+ sebagai persyaratan sidang skripsi.
Banyak temen yang bilang kalau tes ini butuh perjuangan yang soooo extreme. You have to get enough rest, study much, master many things, and blah blah blah....
I don't have time for that! I'm a very busy woman, y'know.
So, I only got to practice whatever it is in the handbook given by my university. There are some assignments, and I did them all. Whew....
The day finally comes....
Saya mengerjakan sebagaimana saya biasanya mengerjakan ujian. Yah, dibilang cepat sih cepat, dibilang lambat, yo nggak gitu lambat kok. Wkwkwk
Saya adalah peserta kedua yang selesai mengerjakan soal. Bisa jadi yang pertama sih andai saya nggak bengong menatap jam dinding. Wkwkwk
Dua minggu kemudian, saya dapat kabar kalau hasil TOEFL ITP sudah bisa diambil. Bersama seorang teman, saya mendatangi kampus dan menerima sertifikat putih berisi nama saya. Dan WOW! Skor saya 593!
Wah saya seneng setengah modar!
Ternyata jerih senang saya belajar bahasa Inggris dari masih anak bawang sampai tante-tante (kemaren saya dipanggil tante pas jalan-jalan di supermarket. edan lah) membuahkan hasil yang enak!

Gramedia Writing Project Batch 2
Nah, jadi, seperti yang kalian tahu, beberapa bulan lalu diadakan Gramedia Writing Project Batch 2.
Saya, dengan modal seadanya, ikutan lho!

Dengan username Metha, foto profil seadanya, dan biodata kosong, saya mulai upload seluruh karya saya yang lagi nganggur di folder. Semua saya labeli GWP2, berharap bakal ada banyak orang yang baca, komentar, dan vote.

TOO LAZY TO WRITE A NEW ENTRY 'CAUSE MY FINGER HURTS LIKE HELL....
On January 20, there was an announcement on the 30 best writers on a very well known online writing community. The event is called Gramedia Writing Project Batch 2, starting from November 2014 to December 2014. There will be 10 writers picked from the best 30 writers to be invited to Jakarta and have their manuscripts published by the most famous Indonesian publishing house, Gramedia. I joined the event out of curiosity. Under the username Metha, I posted my works (short stories and novels) on the community by December 2014. There was only a few votes and comments on my works, and I thought my works must be thrash.... You can imagine how sad I was, right?
And then things happen in January 2015.... I didn't check anything until January 31. That was when I read the announcement. The judges were facing difficulties to pick the 10 best writers from the 30 best writers. It was easy to find my name in the announcement since it is the shortest name.
I couldn't believe it! I was one of the 30 best writers!
Then I raid the whole internet to get more information about the event and how the judges picked the winners. They said, vote and comment don't effect the judgement. It is the writer's writing skill that matters.
Though I'm not picked as the best 10 writers, I'm still so happy! All the works I did for years finally paid off.
What makes me even happier is that the judges will keep an eye on the 30 writers (including me, yeah) to monitor their improvements. We will also have much bigger chance to publish our works under Gramedia.
Now, my friends, please pray for me so I can finish my novels and publish them in Gramedia and other publishers. This is what I have been dreaming for years besides making my family happy. Writing is my field, I decided. And I will make my family proud of me and my achievement.

Did you know? I have some anthologies, too! Three are horror anthologies (Lucy Lucifer, Ground Zero, and Cannaregio), and one is an anthology of true stories (Curhatku Untuk Semesta). All are published by a huge and very well known publishing company, de Teens. Please buy and read them!
